Frequently Asked Questions-boudoir, glamour, & fine art photography in Los Angeles

  • Boudoir photography is an intimate, empowering style of portrait photography that celebrates the female form. Sessions typically take place in a studio or private location and range from tasteful and elegant to sensual, depending on your comfort level. At Black Kat Studios, boudoir sessions are about confidence, self-love, and creating images you'll treasure forever -not just photos, but an experience.

  • Fine art photography goes beyond capturing a moment - it's about creating an image with intentional artistic vision, mood, and meaning. I work with you to create images that feel more like paintings or cinema stills than traditional portraits. These are the kinds of images that belong on a gallery wall, not just a phone screen. Fine art sessions are available as standalone shoots or combined with boudoir or glamour sessions.

  • Great question - and one I get asked a lot. Boudoir photography is intimate and personal, focused on celebrating your body and femininity in a private, empowering setting. Glamour photography is bold and polished - think dramatic lighting, striking poses, and a high-fashion editorial feel. Fine art photography is the most conceptual of the three, built around a creative vision, theme, or story. At Black Kat Studios these styles often overlap and can be combined into a single session tailored entirely to you.

  • Pricing varies depending on the type of session and package you choose — whether that's boudoir, glamour, fine art, or a combination. Sessions typically include professional hair and makeup, multiple wardrobe changes, and a full gallery of edited images. Visit my Services & Pricing page for current rates, or schedule a free consultation and we'll figure out what's right for you.

  • Absolutely not. The vast majority of my clients have never modeled before and walk in feeling nervous. I coach you through every pose and expression, making the entire experience relaxed, fun, and pressure-free. You're not expected to be a model. You just have to be willing to try things - I'll handle the rest.

  • You can wear lingerie, a favorite outfit, a partner's dress shirt, athletic wear, or nothing at all — it's completely up to you and your comfort level. I offer a free Boudoir Clothing Guide (downloadable on the homepage) that walks you through exactly what to bring, what to avoid, and how to prepare your wardrobe for the most flattering results.

  • Yes. A professional makeup artist is included with every Black Kat Studios session. She is present from before your first frame through your last setup , not just for pre-session prep but as part of your creative team throughout the entire experience.

  • My home studio is based in Upland, CA- a private, relaxed environment perfect for intimate sessions. I also regularly shoot at premium studio locations throughout Los Angeles for clients who prefer an LA-based session. I serve clients throughout the greater Los Angeles area, the Inland Empire, San Bernardino County, and surrounding communities including Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Claremont, and Pomona.

  • A typical session runs 2 to 3 hours including your makeup prep before we shoot. Your professional makeup artist arrives before your first frame and stays with you throughout the entire session for touch ups and energy — she is part of your creative team, not just a pre-shoot service.

Once we start shooting the time flies. We will work through your wardrobe changes, setups, and creative direction together at a pace that feels comfortable for you. There is no rushing.

One thing that surprises almost every client — posing is a lot more physically demanding than you would think. You are not just laying around looking pretty. Even the most athletic clients discover muscles they have not used in a while. It is a workout, it is fun, and it is absolutely worth it — but do not be surprised if you feel it the next day.

  • I always recommend getting a good night's sleep, staying hydrated, and avoiding anything that leaves marks on your skin - like tight elastic waistbands - the day of your shoot. Download the free Clothing Guide from the homepage for a complete preparation checklist. The more prepared you are, the more relaxed you'll feel on the day.

  • Not at all. I work with women of every shape, size, age, and background. My approach to posing, lighting, and styling is specifically designed to highlight what makes each person uniquely beautiful. These sessions are for every woman - full stop.

  • Fine art legacy photography is about creating images that outlive the moment - portraits with depth, emotion, and artistic intention that you'll pass down for generations. It's the opposite of a quick snapshot. As a fine art photographer in Los Angeles, I carefully plan each legacy session with you in advance so the final images feel timeless and deeply personal.

  • I'm Rick Feldman, a Los Angeles-based photographer specializing in glamour, boudoir, and fine art photography. My signature style is built on dramatic light, bold color, and intimate storytelling. I started Black Kat Studios because I believe every woman deserves to see herself the way the people who love her see her — and I bring warmth, humor, and professionalism to every single session.
